Learn from the Editors: Authoring in High-Impact Journals

About this video

Dr. Fabiola Rivas, Senior Editor with Immunity, and John McConnell, the Editor-in-Chief of The Lancet Infectious Diseases will present techniques and strategies for authoring in high-impact journals. Dr. Rivas will present information on authoring with Cell Press, which includes such titles as Cell, Neuron, Chem, Immunity, Joule, and Cancer Cell. John McConnell will represent publishing in the Lancet family of journals.

The editors will present their experience working with researchers and authors throughout the research publishing cycle, how to develop papers for premium publications, and the opportunity to broadly disseminate findings. Presenters will also talk about regional infectious diseases and most recent findings in fighting these infections.

Senior Scientific Editor, Immunity

Fabiola Rivas received her Ph.D. from The University of Chicago, studying mechanisms of T cell co-stimulation with Dr. Tom Gajewski. She was a Jane Coffin Childs Postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Greg Hannon at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, where she studied biochemical mechanisms of RNA interference. She joined the Cell editorial team in 2007, and in 2013 she became the Editor of Trends in Immunology.  She joined Immunity in 2015.

Editor-in-Chief, The Lancet Infectious Diseases

John McConnell is the Editor-in-Chief. He studied clinical microbiology and parasitology at the University of East London, before spending 6 years researching septic-shock-related topics at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital, London (now part of Imperial College London). He joined The Lancet in 1990, and was a peer-review editor before becoming the first editor of the journal’s website in 1996. In 2001, John McConnell was the founding editor of The Lancet Infectious Diseases. He has been a member of the organising committee of numerous conferences, and has appeared as an expert commentator on BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky News, Al Jazeera, CNBC, CNN, and CCTV America.
